The second of the Youngline annuals and its no better than the 1980 version.  Note the name change from Annual to Yearbook and the re-branding of the logo. The rock article, written by Ferdia McAnna, does reference lots of new bands.  Anyone remember Katmandu? I think they may have also appeared on Youngline during 1980/81 and were in the same TV competition which Choice went on to win. (see earlier post about Choice – and the quest to find a copy of that TV recording).

I probably shouldn’t admit to this, Doug, but I’m guessing it’s the Belfast outfit of the same name?

    “highly sophisticated”?

I’m sure Marty (Lundy) would like to think so but bland and derivative might be alternative adjectives that spring to mind…

  2. Thanks Jake, somebody else said that to me today. I’m wrong. I’m mixing them up with someone else.

  3. i remember Katmandu and Marty Lundy from playing around Belfast. They were the ‘in group’ to go and see. I thought they were BRILLIANT!!! Wonder what Marty is at these days????

    1. Marty (my uncle) is still at it and can be found at Café Vaudeville on Fridays from 5:30-7:30pm

  4. did you know that the drummer (name escapes me) and bass player (Trevor Huthchinson) from Katmandu later teamed up with Mike Scott, Steve W & sax player to tour and record with The Waterboys …Trevor still playing with a couple of good touring rocky trad combos

  5. Just to say, the picture at the top are not the members of DC Nien.
