Wednesday 30th July, 1980, a busy night in Dundalk.
Dexys play the Imperial Hotel. “Geno” already a no.1 hit that year and their “Searching for the Young Soul Rebels” album is just released that week.
Keith Allen supported Dexys. No one, I know, remembers this (and there is no mention of it in the review from Too Late issue 3 below), but he goes into it, at some length, in his autobiography. Anyone out there remember?
And earlier that night, Dundalk FC lost to Liverpool FC in a pre-season friendly at ‘home’ in Landsdowne Rd, Dublin. (link to match programme cover).

My younger brother & sister met Kev Rowland in town on the day of the gig and got on the guest list but were refused entry as they were too young! (Kev said, brother looked like the young lad on cover of the album – see above) My older brother met the group in
the Roma cafe (correction, it was actually Woolworths) day after the gig. All said Kev was sound and had plenty of time for chat.
