Evening Press report on U2  or, as they are referred to in this article, “U2 Malahide” winning the Limerick Pop ’78 contest on 18th March 1978. This was just months before Larry sat his inter cert and when Adam was the leader!

  1. I don’t know what became of those U2 lads but I remember Harmony !

  2. “Harmony” sure have that harmonised appearance all right, right down to their curtains… sorry, dresses 🙂

Didn’t know U2 called themselves U2 Malahide at that stage, interesting. Or maybe it’s just a typo? £500 was bloody good back then. By my standard price-of-a-pint index, let’s see… hmmmm, a pint (of stout) was about 40p back then, as I well remember, which is equivalent to 51c, and since a pint is now about (country prices here) €4.20 that means that £500 is now equal to £3,500 or €4,400. Give or take. Ish.
