We’ve scanned a selection of pages and adverts from this self-described ‘booklet’, ‘Ireland Now’ by David O’Neill which although just A5 in size had some 84 pages.

  1. I was wondering what was going on with the mental traffic on Dawson St (nice elevated perspective by the photographer), but you sometimes forget just how long the Luas works has actually been going on for now.

    Since the formation of the state, that’s how long.

  2. In 1948 the trams to Dartry (14) and Terenure (15) were still running. It was their last year, the rest of the very extensive system having been ripped up over the previous 10 years. From the Pillar, up and down Westmoreland St., Nassau St., Dawson St., round the Green on the north and west sides and up Harcourt St. And onwards to Dartry and Terenure Crossroads.

    DunLaoghaire & Dalkey line (7 & 8) closed a year later. End of Dublin trams.

    69 years after… look what we’re doing again. Progress, nothing like it 😉
