This is my first scan from the 1990s! But a good one to start with. From almost 20 years ago this is Yellow Press – issue 2. A good value for money Irish magazine/comic, costing ir£1.20 for 32 pages and with only just 1 advert (half a page for O’Dwyers in Mount St) . Similar in style and layout to Viz , this particular issue also featured a four page parody of Ireland’s Own magazine which I will post separately. […]

What I really remember about this gig was the waiting and…. waiting… and waiting outside for the gig to start. It was scheduled to start at 8 but was delayed and we didn’t get inside until about 10.30 due to someone or some truck missing a ferry. People were tired, bored and angry after standing outside for hours. The RUC were out too, moving groups of people on every so often. The Banshees sensibly went on stage first, letting support […]

Love the coffee cup stains on this one. From early 1981, here we have the cover and 3 pages from its Straight Up section. I wonder what happened that free flexi disc! And someone should trace these people down and photo shoot them, 2011 style. See also post: – More UK street style from i-D 3

“In Dublin” magazine celebrated its 10th anniversary in April, 1987 with this issue. I’ve scanned in all 3 pages from its “Under the Bridge” section as it does a brief review of its first 10 years. I’ve also included Paul Webb’s nightclub column and a page of adverts for Dublin Health Studios. Back then, the Cameo was under new management with new staff and unhurried attention. The first gig I saw, outside of Ireland, was Adam & the Ants at the London Lyceum on Sunday, 5th August, 1979. This was the Irish August Bank holiday weekend and two of us traveled to London from Dundalk via ferry & bus. We couldn’t get into the B52s sold out gig in Camden on the Saturday but picked up 2 tickets for the Ants gig the following night. I had heard little of the Ants music. They only had […]
